What the report says

The Verge reports that OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT Health to all logged-in users in the United States who are 18 or older, bringing the feature to web and iOS users across its free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. The rollout, announced Thursday, lets people link medical records and health-tracking data to ChatGPT and ask questions about that information within the main chat interface rather than a separate Health tab.

According to The Verge, OpenAI vice president of health product Ashley Alexander said in a briefing that the company’s models can reason at levels “better than clinician level.” OpenAI health lead Karan Singhal later moderated that characterization when asked for details, pointing instead to individual studies that suggest progress in that direction. The release follows OpenAI’s recent launch of GPT-5.6 Sol, which the company describes as its strongest health-focused model.

The feature can connect data from health providers and services including Apple Health, Weight Watchers, MyFitnessPal and Function. Users may choose what kinds of information to share, such as lab results, medications, visit notes and care-team notes. The company says ChatGPT will request permission before using health data to tailor responses, and that conversations are encrypted, with added protections for connected health information.

The launch comes amid heightened concern over medical advice from chatbots. The Verge notes that a Florida pastor sued OpenAI this week, alleging ChatGPT gave dangerous medical recommendations that led him to delay treatment for a pulmonary embolism. OpenAI says ChatGPT Health is meant to support, not replace, professional medical care.
