BleepingComputer reported that OpenAI’s ChatGPT suffered a major worldwide outage on July 25, 2026, preventing users from loading chats or accessing previous conversations. The disruption began at about 5 a.m. ET and affected users in multiple regions, including the United States and Europe, according to the report.

Users encountering the outage saw ChatGPT hang on loading animations in the sidebar and were unable to send prompts, with some receiving “too many concurrent requests” errors. BleepingComputer said the problem also affected OpenAI’s Codex coding platform and the OpenAI API, with the company’s status page listing issues across as many as 12 API endpoints.

OpenAI acknowledged the incident on its status page, saying at 5:30 a.m. ET that it was investigating problems with the affected services. The company later said it had applied a fix and was monitoring recovery, though BleepingComputer reported that it was still seeing issues during its own checks at that stage.

In an update, BleepingComputer said ChatGPT had fully recovered and was back online as of 6 a.m. ET. The outage lasted nearly 50 minutes and is notable because ChatGPT, Codex and OpenAI’s API are widely used by consumers, developers and businesses, meaning even a short disruption can interrupt workflows that depend on generative AI tools.
