Only Three Stadiums Qualify for FUFA International Category

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has placed only three stadiums in its highest “International” category for the 2026/27 season: Hoima City Stadium, St Mary’s Stadium Kitende and Hamz Stadium Nakivubo. According to Nile Post, the update was released on September 2 and means the venues are approved to host international-level matches and other major fixtures allowed under FUFA’s stadium rules.

The classification matters because Ugandan clubs preparing for continental competition can now use two of those grounds as home venues. Kitara FC is set to host the second leg of its CAF Confederation Cup preliminary tie at Hoima City Stadium, while Vipers SC will play FC Nouadhibou at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende in the CAF Champions League. The report says Hoima’s status is especially important for Kitara, which has previously had to stage home matches outside Uganda because of venue limitations.

FUFA’s system ranks grounds across four tiers, from International down to Category 3, to match stadiums with the level of football they can safely and properly host. Beneath the top tier, the federation listed seven venues in Category 1, 19 in Category 2 and 18 in Category 3. In general, this kind of stadium grading is used by football bodies to guide fixture planning, licensing and competition standards.
