One Dead, Two Injured in Luweero Road Crash

One person died and two others were injured early Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash on the Gulu-Kampala Highway in Luweero District, according to Nile Post. Police said the collision happened around 3 a.m. at Naluvule Village in Katikamu Sub-county and involved a yellow Nissan UBM 653N, a white Toyota Sienta UBL 321R, and a silver-grey Toyota Alphard SSD 990BZ.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twineamazima said preliminary findings suggest the Alphard was heading from Luweero toward Kampala when it collided with the Nissan traveling in the same direction. Police said the Alphard then reportedly lost control while trying to overtake, swerved, and hit the Toyota Sienta coming from Kampala.

A male adult passenger in the Alphard died at the scene, while two other male victims were taken to Luweero General Hospital with injuries. Police said their identities had not yet been confirmed. Officers responded to the scene, documented the crash, and moved the body to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police also said the three vehicles were towed away and are being held pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing. The incident adds to ongoing road safety concerns on major highways in Uganda, where passing maneuvers and high-speed traffic are frequent factors in serious accidents.
