Omukama Nyabongo Appoints Rwomiire Interim Prime Minister

What the report says
Tooro King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I has named Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire as interim Prime Minister to guide the kingdom’s administration during a six-month transition, according to Nile Post. The appointment was announced in Fort Portal by Paul Nyakana Businge, the King’s Principal Secretary, and is meant to provide continuity while the new reign puts its leadership structure in place.
Rwomiire is not new to the role: the report says he previously served as Prime Minister under the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. The king also kept Prince Charles Kayondo Kamurasi Akiiki as Omusuga of Tooro, while naming Prince Kato Benard Rwakatale Abbooki as his deputy. In addition, an 11-member interim advisory committee was set up to support the administration.
The committee includes a mix of figures from the kingdom’s public and royal leadership circles, among them Erisa Kakyomya, Peace Mutuuzo, Chris Kaijuka, Isaiah Mayombo, Benald Tungwako, Flavia Kabahenda, Aston Kajara, Binta Kasoojo, Abdullah Mangalija, William Byaruhanga and Monica Rubombora. The changes come as Tooro reorganises after Nyabongo’s accession following the death of Oyo, whose long reign began in 1995. The reported appointments appear intended to balance continuity with the formation of a new governing team during a period of succession-related adjustment.
