Old School RnB and Friends takes nostalgia to Buyala

What the report says
Nile Post reported that Old School RnB and Friends staged a nostalgia-focused music event at Masheda Palms in Buyala on Saturday, October 10, marking the first time the experience was held outside Kampala. The Independence weekend gathering drew RnB fans for an afternoon built around throwback songs, Ugandan classics, themed fashion and socialising, with white, khaki, denim and coffee-brown outfits standing out at the venue.
According to the report, the event was supported by Baileys and Tusker Cider and hosted by Derrick Dash. By midday, a sizeable crowd had gathered to take photos, meet friends and settle in for music spanning several eras. DJs including Anselm, Bryan, Maintain, Nyowe, Crysto and Wil moved the crowd from late-1990s and 2000s RnB to Ugandan favourites, Motown, early 2010s party sounds and other familiar hits.
The article said the playlist included artistes such as Mya, Jennifer Lopez, Destiny’s Child, Blackstreet, Next, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Boyz II Men and Beyoncé, helping turn the venue into a sing-along setting. Attendees told Nile Post the appeal was not only the music but also the chance to reconnect with friends and relive memories tied to the songs.
Baileys and Tusker Cider brand manager Simon Lapyem said such events help the brands connect with consumers through shared experiences. The Buyala event was also described as part of a broader Independence weekend nostalgia trend, with similar older-music gatherings taking place in Kampala.
