‘ODPP’s Bagada lost less that sh129million’

What the report says
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Uganda has rejected reports that senior prosecutor Alex Bagada was robbed of Shs129 million, saying the figure circulating in the media is much higher than what investigators are dealing with. In a statement dated October 27, ODPP spokesperson Jacquelyn Okui said the suspected robbery happened on October 8 and that the matter was reported to police two days later. She said the incident took place at Alchemist Restaurant and Bar, where Bagada had gone for dinner, not at a sauna as some reports suggested.
According to the ODPP, the exact amount involved has not yet been confirmed because the criminal investigation is still ongoing. The agency also disputed claims about Bagada’s bank balance, saying published figures were inaccurate. Bagada heads the ODPP’s Homicide Division, which handles homicide cases and related prosecutorial work.
The clarification came after other media reports alleged that Bagada was drugged, robbed and later found unconscious in Kampala, with money allegedly withdrawn from his account. The ODPP said those details have not been verified and urged the public and media not to speculate while police continue their inquiry. The statement also criticized sensational coverage and called for accurate, fair reporting in cases involving victims of crime.
