The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Ohio is one of the states most affected by a growing cyclosporiasis outbreak, with the Ohio Department of Health listing 2,576 cases as of July 23. The illness is caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis and can bring prolonged gastrointestinal symptoms. Federal investigators from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been sent to Ohio to assist with the inquiry, which the Enquirer says may be connected to contaminated lettuce.

The article focuses on differing case counts for Cincinnati and Hamilton County. ODH data showed 17 Hamilton County cases as of July 23, while Hamilton County Public Health reported 29 cases as of July 27: 18 confirmed, 10 suspected and under investigation, and one probable.
