What the report says

Former US President Barack Obama campaigned for Democrats in Ohio and Michigan as the US midterm elections approach, using his appearances to attack President Donald Trump and the current Republican administration. According to BBC World News, Obama told supporters that the vote was the “last best chance” to check what he described as the administration’s excesses, while criticizing its handling of the economy, the Iran war and broader governance.

Obama’s Ohio rally was aimed at backing former senator Sherrod Brown, who is seeking to unseat Republican Senator John Husted, and Amy Acton, who is running for governor against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. He also took aim at a recent campaign ad linked to Ramaswamy that featured Acton’s estranged mother. Obama said the ad crossed a line, and Acton accused her opponent of exploiting her childhood for political gain.

Trump was campaigning separately in Georgia, where he defended his immigration, tariff and economic policies and said the country was entering a “golden age.” BBC reported that he also repeated hardline remarks about immigration and promised a $5,000 payout for adults if Republicans win both chambers of Congress. The midterms, scheduled for 3 November, will determine control of Congress for the rest of Trump’s term and therefore how easily he can advance his agenda.
