NWSC Seeks For Denmark’s Grundfos to Make Water Pumps, Spares From Uganda

What the report says
National Water and Sewerage Corporation managing director Silver Mugisha has asked Danish pump maker Grundfos to explore a manufacturing partnership in Uganda with the National Enterprise Corporation, according to Nile Post. The proposal, raised at the International Water Association World Water Congress and Exhibition in Glasgow, would focus on producing pumps and spare parts locally to cut NWSC’s reliance on imports and reduce delays when components are needed.
Mugisha said local production could help Uganda serve not only its own water sector but also other African markets. He also urged Grundfos to study NWSC’s hydraulic systems, develop more energy-efficient pumps, and consider cooperation on prepaid water meters and engineering training. The discussions included support for the African Water and Sanitation Academy and broader efforts to strengthen technical capacity within NWSC and Uganda’s water sector.
In separate meetings at the event, Mugisha also sought cheaper long-term financing from the World Bank for infrastructure, sanitation and efficiency projects, and asked the Gates Foundation for support for research and development, the 50 Towns Water Supply Improvement Project and preparations for the 2027 IWA congress Uganda is scheduled to host in November 2027. According to the report, the World Bank said it would assess risks and due diligence, while Gates Foundation officials said they were open to supporting Uganda’s preparations and broader water and sanitation work.
