NWSC Races to Boost Hoima Water Supply Ahead of AFCON 2027

What the report says
The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is advancing water supply upgrades in Hoima City as preparations continue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Nile Post. The utility says its Hoima emergency water project is 37% complete, with commissioning targeted for February 2027. NWSC’s board inspected the works as part of a wider push to improve service to key sites expected to see higher demand during the tournament.
The project includes a raw water intake on River Kafu, a treatment plant at Rwoga, a storage and balancing reservoir, and pipelines linking Kikuube to Hoima City. NWSC said the existing extension to Hoima City Stadium has already been completed and commissioned, using boreholes at Mparo and Kyarwiru to support the venue.
The utility is also planning an extension to Kabalega International Airport. Based on the material provided, that proposal would include upgrading the Kafu Water Treatment Plant, laying a bulk transfer pipeline, and adding storage at the airport. The airport and stadium are among the facilities expected to play a larger role as Hoima prepares for AFCON 2027.
More broadly, the reported works reflect efforts to strengthen long-term urban infrastructure in Hoima while improving reliability for event-related demand.
