Nwoya schools get 20 laptops as digital learning gap persists

What the report says
Four secondary schools in Nwoya District have received a total of 20 laptops to support digital learning, with five devices allocated to each school. The beneficiaries are Koch Goma Secondary School, Alero Seed Secondary School, Anaka Pope Paul VI Secondary School and Purongo Seed Secondary School. According to the Nile Post report, the equipment was secured through the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance after lobbying by Nwoya Woman MP Christine Lanyero Awany.
At Koch Goma Secondary School, the donation drew attention to broader education challenges still affecting the district. Head teacher Priscila Amono said the school has more than 600 learners but previously had only 13 functioning computers. She also described shortages of classroom space and teaching staff, saying some A-Level students are learning under a tree. The school has previously received solar-powered computers from the Uganda Communications Commission, though the article says those devices can no longer be accounted for.
Awany said the laptops were only a starting point and pledged to keep seeking more support for schools. She urged teachers to remain committed, students to use the computers mainly for learning, and parents to support government-aided Seed Schools. More broadly, the report says the donation reflects Uganda’s wider digital learning gap, with recent sector assessments showing uneven access to computers and connectivity across secondary schools. That context helps explain why laptops alone may not be enough without classrooms, teachers, electricity and internet access.
