Nvidia Open Weights Letter Doubled To 50 Without Amazon And Anthropic - Forbes

Forbes reported that a public letter backed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang calling on Washington not to restrict downloadable AI model weights expanded rapidly after Huang shared it on X. The letter, titled around “Open Weights and American AI Leadership,” initially had 25 company signatures and grew to 50 within about a day, according to the Forbes article published July 25 and updated July 26, 2026.

The newly added names included OpenAI, Google, AMD, Cisco, Cloudflare, GitHub, Block and Ollama, Forbes said. The outlet highlighted that early coverage had noted OpenAI’s absence, but that changed as additional companies joined after the letter was already public. Forbes framed the speed of the sign-on process as evidence that technology policy campaigns can now gather momentum in hours once they become visible online.

Amazon and Anthropic were not listed among the signatories, Forbes reported, calling their absence notable because of their positions in the AI market and their business ties. The article noted that Amazon is a major Anthropic investor and that Anthropic uses Amazon’s Trainium chips among other infrastructure. Forbes cautioned that neither company had explained its decision, and that readers should not assume a single reason.

The report also said the letter’s push for openness focuses on model weights but does not resolve other enterprise concerns, including access to chips, data governance, liability for self-hosted systems, and auditability of AI agents. Forbes argued that businesses evaluating open-weight models should map vendor dependencies, test real workloads, and consider governance controls separately from model choice.
