What the report says

Francis Kasilye of the National Unity Platform has retained the Lugeye Village chairperson seat in Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District, after winning a repeat election against National Resistance Movement candidate Ibrahim Musisi. According to Nile Post, the rerun was held on Thursday at St Stephen’s Church grounds in Lugeye Village.

The publication said Kasilye received 331 votes, while Musisi got 115. Presiding officer Vincent Byamukama declared Kasilye the winner after the count, and described the exercise as peaceful. Police were deployed at the polling venue from early morning to maintain order and avoid a repeat of the violence and disagreement that had affected the earlier contest.

Nile Post reported that the Electoral Commission ordered the repeat poll after cancelling the previous results over irregularities and disputes. The result gives Kasilye another term as village chairperson and reflects ongoing political competition in parts of Wakiso District, where local election outcomes have occasionally been contested.

Kasilye thanked residents for their support and urged both his opponents and other community members to work together on service delivery and development. The report also noted calls from NUP supporter Ronald Ssemaganda for unity and for security personnel to remain professional and neutral during repeat elections.
