NUP Leaders, Comedians Pay Tribute as Kapere Is Laid to Rest

What the report says
Opposition figures, comedians and hundreds of mourners gathered in Mukono District to lay comedian Yowana Mbuuse, widely known as Kapere, to rest. According to Nile Post, the burial took place on Tuesday in Bulimu Village, Kyampisi Sub-county, with the funeral service held at St Ponsiano Ngondwe Church compound because the home area could not accommodate the crowd.
The report says Kapere was remembered as a gifted performer, a generous colleague and a committed supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP). Among those present were NUP parliamentary leader Joel Ssenyonyi, Central Region deputy president Muwanga Kivumbi, secretary general Lewis Rubongoya and Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze. Fellow entertainers, including Full Stop of the Amarula Family, described him as someone who helped other comedians find work and gave younger artists opportunities to grow.
Kapere’s widow, Lydia Nakandi, asked supporters not to abandon the family and appealed for help to finish the house her husband had begun building. NUP leaders used the ceremony to praise his example and encourage people, including those with disabilities, to pursue their abilities and ambitions. Party president Robert Kyagulanyi, speaking in a recorded message, praised Kapere’s patriotism and principles. More broadly, the tributes showed the strong links between Uganda’s entertainment scene, community support networks and opposition politics.
