NUP Begins Village Campaigns in Masaka Ahead of LC I Elections

Nile Post reported that the National Unity Platform has started grassroots campaign activities in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division in Masaka City as Uganda prepares for Local Council I chairperson and village women committee elections. The party is appealing to residents to choose village-level leaders it says will focus on accountability, public service delivery and community development.

According to the report, the launch took place in Kibissi Parish, Kadduggala, and was led by Nyendo-Mukungwe Division Mayor Ronald Kasekende alongside NUP officials and candidates seeking different village posts. The campaign team reportedly visited several areas, including Kibissi A, Kinyerere A, Kinyerere B, Namagoma, Mirembe and Katera, using rallies and door-to-door outreach to meet voters.

Kasekende urged residents to back NUP flag bearers, saying village leaders are central to handling local disputes, mobilising communities for development work and connecting residents with higher levels of government. Nile Post said he also called for peaceful participation, rejected intimidation and encouraged communities to remain united after the vote regardless of political affiliation.

The report also highlighted Fred Zziwa Kunsa Kewerimidde, NUP’s candidate for LC I chairperson in Katera Village, who said he would focus on unity, accessible leadership, sanitation, community security, youth initiatives and fair access to government programmes if elected. Residents at the meetings reportedly welcomed the candidates and called for peaceful campaigns. The elections are expected to draw candidates from parties and independents, making village-level mobilisation an important part of the wider local political contest.
