Ntungamo Residents Embrace National Cleaning Day

The report says the effort left the market noticeably cleaner and was welcomed by some participants who said better sanitation would make the area safer and more comfortable for business and customers. One participant, Silili Katsyamutwe, said the market had been heavily littered before the cleanup. Others urged officials to improve coordination so residents and traders could begin cleaning together in future exercises.

Local authorities, however, expressed concern about low turnout from some traders and residents. Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner Miriam Kagaiga Mugisha praised those who joined in but warned that businesses that ignored the directive could face sanctions. Market leaders also said traders who skipped the exercise might be restricted from operating.
