What the report says

Construction has started on the Shs95.67 million Ruhorobo Bridge in Ntungamo District, according to Nile Post. The project is intended to restore a key crossing between Rwoho and Nyakyera town councils after floodwater destroyed the earlier bridge and cut off easier access to markets, schools and health facilities.

The article says residents have struggled to move agricultural produce and reach basic services since runoff from the surrounding hills washed away the crossing. District roads engineer Moses Twiine said the work is being guided by the Ministry of Works and Transport, following preliminary assessments to identify a design that can handle the water flow that caused the earlier damage.

Ntungamo District chairperson Samuel Muchunguzi said the new bridge will include a two-metre metallic pipe to improve drainage and reduce flood damage, and should serve heavy trucks if properly built and maintained. Ruhaama East MP Moses Kahima Mugabe, who chairs the district roads committee, linked the earlier destruction to heavy runoff and deforestation, and called for close supervision to ensure quality and accountability.

The report says the bridge is expected to take about two months to complete. It also notes that district leaders were monitoring maintenance work on the 13-kilometre Katinda–Kagarama road, a separate Shs97.62 million project aimed at improving transport for farmers and other residents.
