What the report says

The National Resistance Movement says its next priority after the 2026 general elections is to stabilize the new government and start implementing its manifesto, according to the Nile Post. NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong said the party expects to be judged by how well it delivers on the promises it made to voters, not simply by winning office.

Todwong said the party still has some election petitions involving its leaders, but he described the main task now as making sure ministers and other officials understand the manifesto’s priorities and carry them out. He framed the agenda as one of turning campaign commitments into government action.

A major part of that plan, he said, is reducing household poverty by pushing economic opportunities closer to families. Todwong said the aim is to make households more productive and able to sell goods in the market. He linked that approach to President Yoweri Museveni’s repeated emphasis on household production and income generation.

The comments reflect the NRM’s shift from campaign messaging to governance planning. In general, manifesto implementation is often used by ruling parties to show continuity between election promises and policy delivery, especially on economic issues such as poverty reduction and local production.
