What the report says

Government Chief Whip Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has called members of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus to meet on Friday at Kololo Ceremonial Independence Grounds in Kampala, according to a notice reported by Nile Post. The meeting is set to start at noon, and caucus members were asked to attend in person.

The notice, dated August 5, 2026, also directed all caucus members to undergo mandatory Covid-19 testing before the gathering. Nile Post reported that the testing was being carried out at Conference Hall B in the Parliamentary Building and was scheduled to run from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

The invitation was copied to President Yoweri Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong and the Director of the Office of the Leader of Government Business. The article said Aceng chairs the caucus. While the notice did not list an agenda, such meetings are generally used to align the ruling party’s position on government business before parliamentary debate.

Nile Post noted that the caucus is meeting as Parliament handles a number of government bills and other matters requiring party coordination. The gathering is likely to be watched closely because caucus decisions can shape how NRM legislators vote in the House.
