NRM Intensifies Grassroots Mobilisation Ahead of LC I Elections in Teso

Nile Post reports that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has increased grassroots mobilisation in Uganda’s Teso sub-region as it prepares for forthcoming Local Council I, Local Council II and Women Council elections. The party says the effort is intended to reinforce its structures at village and parish level after what it describes as a strong showing in the 2026 General Election.

According to the report, Samuel Eyenga, the NRM Senior Manager for Mobilisation and Cadre Recruitment, spoke after a regional mobilisation meeting held in Soroti over the weekend. He said a seven-member mobilisation team had been sent to Teso to coordinate preparations and encourage support for NRM flag bearers. The meeting reportedly brought together district party chairpersons, LC V leaders, women league officials and other NRM representatives from 10 districts and Soroti City.

Nile Post says district leaders were instructed to hold follow-up meetings at sub-county and village levels, leading to village barazas focused on campaigning for the party’s candidates. Eyenga framed LC I polls as a base for broader political strength, saying NRM wants to build on President Yoweri Museveni’s reported performance in Teso during the recent general election.

The report adds that the meeting discussed implementation concerns around the Parish Development Model, the livestock restocking programme and internal party disagreements. Eyenga said reconciliation would be prioritised in areas such as Kaberamaido, Serere and parts of Kalaki, while Soroti City and Soroti District were described as places where opposition support remains a key challenge for the ruling party.
