‘Nothing is justifying this’: Qatari PM slams atrocities in Gaza

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani told British broadcaster Piers Morgan that he views those responsible for the situation in Gaza as war criminals, while also saying Qatar will continue its role as a mediator and supporter of diplomacy in the Middle East. The comments were made in an interview on Tuesday on "Piers Morgan Uncensored," according to Al Jazeera.

In the interview, Sheikh Mohammed said the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel was a massacre that should be condemned, but argued that Israel’s military response in Gaza was not justified. He said hospitals and schools had been hit and said nothing could justify those attacks. He also said a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025 had not been respected, alleging that more than 1,400 Palestinians had been killed and that much of Gaza remained under occupation, as reported by Al Jazeera.

The Qatari leader also criticized Israel’s 2025 strike in Doha, which he said targeted Hamas figures during mediation efforts and violated Qatar’s sovereignty. He said the attack set a dangerous precedent by hitting a mediator. Beyond Gaza, he outlined diplomatic priorities for ending wider regional tensions, including talks over Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions, freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional security arrangements. He said Qatar believes progress depends on private diplomacy and dialogue with both the United States and Iran.
