North Kigezi Bishop Urges Men to Lead Prayerful Lives Worthy of Emulation

Nile Post reported that Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, urged men in the diocese to live prayerfully and show integrity in family, church and community life. He made the appeal during the Diocesan Men’s Day of Prayer and Fasting at the Emmanuel Cathedral Consecration Site in Kinyasano, Rukungiri District.

According to the report, the gathering formed part of the diocese’s wider effort to encourage shared prayer, healing services and spiritual renewal in churches. Bishop Asiimwe raised concern about alcoholism, sexual immorality and prostitution, linking such conduct to family breakdown and the spread of HIV. He said the turnout of men at the event gave hope for healing and restoration in the diocese and the wider district.

Preaching from 1 Corinthians 11:1 and drawing from the story of Lazarus in John 11, Bishop Asiimwe challenged men to model Christian conduct, care faithfully for their wives, avoid destructive spending and take up productive work, including coffee growing, to support household incomes. Guest speaker Lay Canon Samuel Bakutana, the Provincial Fathers’ Union President, also addressed the men, urging them to stay close to God, work diligently, reject idleness and be examples their children and communities can follow.

Nile Post said Bakutana encouraged men to give priority to God, spouses and children rather than focusing only on careers, and called on fathers to take active responsibility in their homes. The report added that 40 men committed their lives to Jesus Christ at the close of the prayer event.
