What the report says

Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) media head Frank Mwesigye has publicly distanced events promoter Norbert Twizere, also known as Norbert Events, from the organisation after Twizere appeared in PLU-branded clothing around the time of his arrest. In remarks shared on X, Mwesigye said Twizere is neither a staff member nor an office bearer, and should not be treated as an official within PLU.

The clarification comes against the backdrop of Twizere’s court appearance with fellow promoter Twaha Mujabi before Makindye Magistrates Court, where both were remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations tied to the management of funds belonging to the Kampala and Beyond United Music Promoters SACCO. According to the report, the accusations involve about Shs1 billion in government funds and Shs31.9 million in members’ savings, though the case remains before court and the claims are untested.

Mwesigye said PLU’s offices receive many visitors with different reasons for coming, including people seeking recognition, political engagement or support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. He argued that Twizere’s visits to PLU premises in Naguru and Nakasero should not be read as proof of any formal role. He also said Twizere is an elected NRM LC1 chairperson in Makindye, not a PLU official. The episode highlights how public appearances and political affiliations can create confusion around pressure groups such as PLU.
