Nnaabagereka Development Foundation Trains Rwenzururu Cultural Leaders on Health Emergencies

The Nnaabagereka Development Foundation has trained cultural leaders in the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu to improve community readiness for public health emergencies, including risks that could spread across borders from neighbouring countries, according to Nile Post. The week-long programme focused on prevention, preparedness and response, with the aim of helping leaders support health messaging and mobilise communities during crises.

The training involved cultural leaders from the Rwenzururu Kingdom and was presented as part of wider cooperation between the Buganda Kingdom and Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu. The Rwenzururu Prime Minister welcomed the initiative and praised the relationship between the two institutions, saying the training grew out of an earlier visit by Rwenzururu leaders to Buganda, where they learned about the operations of Buganda’s institutions.

The foundation’s executive director said the Rwenzururu area is strategically important in health emergency response because of its location and possible exposure to threats from outside Uganda. She urged clan heads and other local leaders to pass on the training to communities so the information can be applied more widely.

The reported goal is to strengthen collaboration between cultural institutions and public health preparedness.
