Nile Post reports that Nation Media Group Uganda has restarted operations nearly one month after security forces closed its offices and disrupted its print, television and radio platforms. According to the report, an internal memo from the company’s Human Resources department dated July 28, 2026, told staff that work had resumed that day, though most employees would initially operate remotely while the company awaits full clearance of its premises.

The report says staff needed at the Namuwongo and Serena offices would be contacted by supervisors, while employees at Commercial Plaza could return physically. The shutdown, which began on June 28, affected Daily Monitor, NTV Uganda, Spark TV, KFM and Dembe FM. Nile Post says NMG continued some digital publishing after the raid, but later halted wider operations following engagements involving government officials and the group’s majority shareholder.

Nile Post further reports that the reopening followed authorisation by President Yoweri Museveni after weeks of talks between NMG leadership and government representatives. The discussions are reported to have involved NMG officials including Chairman Joe Muganda, CEO Geoffrey Odundo, Uganda Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa and Editor-in-Chief Joe Ageyo, as well as Uganda Communications Commission Executive Director Nyombi Thembo. Taifa Group Chairman Rostam Aziz, whose company is linked to NMG’s majority shareholder, also credited Museveni and Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for their roles in the engagement.

The outlet links the closure to tensions between the government and the media group over concerns officials described as imbalance in coverage, alongside a wider political climate that included disputes over opposition figure Kizza Besigye’s detention. The resumption matters because it restores one of Uganda’s major private media operations, though full office-based work remains dependent on further clearance.
