Nile Breweries Marks 75 Years, Reports Shs5tn in Taxes

What the report says
Nile Breweries Limited has marked 75 years of operations in Uganda with celebrations launched at its Jinja brewery, where the company highlighted its long-running role in manufacturing, agriculture and tax contributions. According to Nile Post, the brewer said it has paid more than Shs5 trillion in taxes between 2010 and 2025, and noted that annual tax payments have exceeded Shs450 billion since 2024.
The company also pointed to its production footprint and supply chain. It said its Jinja and Mbarara plants together have an annual capacity of about three million hectolitres, with the Jinja site able to produce more than 1.9 million hectolitres and Mbarara 1.1 million. Nile Breweries said its local raw material programme supports around 25,000 Ugandan farmers supplying crops such as barley, sorghum, cassava and maize, and that more than 98% of its inputs are sourced locally.
The anniversary comes as the brewer, now part of AB InBev, reflects on its history dating back to 1951 in Njeru near Jinja. The article says the business changed hands several times over the decades before becoming part of the global brewing group. Company officials framed the milestone as an opportunity to recognise employees, farmers, distributors and other partners who support the business.
Nile Breweries also said it is focusing on water stewardship, sustainability and awareness against illicit alcohol. In general, such priorities are common in the brewing industry, especially where production depends on reliable water supplies and local agricultural inputs.
