What the report says

A Nigerian dancer known as Ben Dancer is attempting to set a new world record by dancing continuously for seven days in Lagos, drawing large crowds to Freedom Park as he nears the end of the challenge. BBC Africa reports that Benjamin Daniel, 33, began the attempt on Tuesday 22 September and is aiming for 168 hours of dancing, which would exceed the current listed record of 127 hours set in 2023 by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap. Guinness World Records has not yet confirmed whether the effort will be recognised.

According to the report, Ben Dancer has spent years working professionally and has prepared for the marathon with training, diet changes and cardiovascular conditioning. During the attempt he has been eating lightly, drinking fluids and taking the permitted five minutes of rest for every continuous hour of activity. A medical team has been present at the site, and his performance has blended Afrobeats, fuji, jazz and zouk with traditional Nigerian clothing such as agbada and dashiki.

The event has become a public spectacle, with young people gathering to film, dance and support him, while clips from the challenge spread on social media. Supporters told the BBC they were impressed by his endurance and the atmosphere around the performance. BBC Africa also places the attempt in a wider Nigerian trend of high-profile record bids, following the country’s recent interest in Guinness-recognised feats such as Hilda Baci’s cooking marathon.
