What the report says

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum visited Gombe State on Sunday to commission a set of road and bridge projects completed under Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s infrastructure programme. According to the report, the projects included a 41-kilometre road in Kwami Local Government Area, a 30-kilometre road in the Kwanan Gerkwami–Tsangayari corridor, a 15-kilometre road with a spur to Kundulum, and the Titi-Kurba bridge.

The newly opened routes add up to more than 86 kilometres of roads and are intended to improve links between Gombe metropolis, rural settlements and the Gombe-Kano Highway. The article says the roads are expected to make it easier for people to reach markets, farmlands and other services, while also supporting trade and agricultural activity in surrounding communities.

Zulum praised Yahaya’s administration for what he described as significant development in the state and said better roads can strengthen rural livelihoods by helping farmers move produce and expand access to economic opportunities. Yahaya, in turn, said the projects were designed to connect communities and unlock local economic potential as part of his government’s Network-1100 programme.

The report says Network-1100 aims to build about 1,100 kilometres of roads across Gombe State’s 11 local government areas. Yahaya also said more than 1,000 kilometres had already been completed as his administration moved toward the final phase of its term. More broadly, the projects reflect the importance many Nigerian states place on transport infrastructure as a driver of rural development and regional commerce.
