Nigeria: You Have Nothing to Fear Over Tinubu's Second Term - Shettima to North

What the report says
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday used a meeting in Abuja with the pro-Tinubu group Arewa for Asiwaju to urge northern leaders and voters to support President Bola Tinubu’s expected 2027 re-election bid. According to the report from This Day, Shettima argued that the North had already gained from federal appointments, agricultural support and infrastructure projects, and said the region would benefit further if Tinubu won a second term.
The vice president pointed to the Bank of Agriculture’s reported disbursement of N450 billion to 700,000 smallholder farmers nationwide, saying about 70% of the beneficiaries were in the North. He also said the administration was continuing major projects in different parts of the country and asked the group to keep mobilizing support across wards, communities and local government areas.
Also on Monday, Information Minister Mohammed Idris said Tinubu’s economic reforms were starting to show results, citing lower inflation, stronger foreign reserves, better oil output and more investment in infrastructure and social programmes. He acknowledged that many households still face high living costs and said the government wants macroeconomic gains to translate into cheaper essentials and better living conditions.
Innovation, Science and Technology Minister Kingsley Udeh separately defended Tinubu’s second-term ambition, saying the president needed more time to complete his economic agenda. Arewa for Asiwaju leaders, including former governors Abubakar Badaru and Ibrahim Shekarau, said they would intensify grassroots organizing ahead of the 2027 election.
