Nigeria: Two Security Operatives Reportedly Killed in Fresh Plateau Attack

What the report says
At least two security operatives were reportedly killed and several others injured in a renewed attack on communities in Jol District of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, according to Vanguard’s report carried by AllAfrica. The incident was said to have happened on Sunday afternoon, when suspected armed attackers stormed Tanjol and Tarai communities and opened fire on residents.
Community sources told the outlet that the attackers entered the area around 2:30 p.m., prompting a response from security personnel stationed nearby. That encounter reportedly turned into a gun battle lasting several minutes. The report said the attackers took the firearms of the slain operatives, while some residents were also injured and one civilian was reported missing.
A local resident, Jerry Chollom, confirmed the development to Vanguard and said the attack had increased fear and tension among people living around Jol. He urged security agencies to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities in the area. The report said efforts to obtain comments from security agencies were unsuccessful at the time.
Plateau State has experienced repeated attacks and communal insecurity in recent years. In this case, the reported killing of security personnel and seizure of weapons underscores the continuing risks facing both civilians and responders in the region.
