Nigeria: Tinubu, 1st Lady, Other Dignitaries Attend Premiere of Mko Abiola Documentary in Lagos

What the report says
President Bola Tinubu attended the Lagos premiere of MKO, a documentary about the life and legacy of late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, according to Leadership via AllAfrica. The event took place on Thursday at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, ahead of the film’s planned nationwide cinema release. First Lady Oluremi Tinubu joined the president, along with a large group of senior officials, governors, lawmakers, cultural figures and other dignitaries.
Among those present were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and Culture Minister Hannatu Musawa. Former Ogun Governor Segun Osoba also attended. The gathering underscored the continued political and symbolic importance of Abiola’s place in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker Ose Oyamendan, the documentary examines Abiola’s political career, the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, his detention and the pro-democracy movement that followed. June 12 remains a major reference point in Nigeria’s democratic narrative because Abiola is widely regarded as the presumed winner of that vote. The film’s release may help bring that history to a broader audience while revisiting a period that shaped the country’s return to civilian rule.
