Nigeria: Seven Feared Dead, Two Uniabuja Students Injured in Truck Crash Near Campus Gate

The crash was reported at about 11:40 a.m. beneath the pedestrian bridge by the university entrance and involved eight vehicles, causing panic among students and motorists in the area.

According to the report, eyewitnesses said seven people died and eight vehicles were destroyed, but emergency authorities had not issued an official casualty breakdown at the time of publication. The University of Abuja Students’ Union Government president, Peculiar Eyamu, told Campus Reporter that two university students were injured and taken by ambulance to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital. She said both were stable and that no UniAbuja student was killed.

The account cited witnesses who described the incident as sudden, with the truck allegedly running into vehicles caught in traffic near the campus gate. Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps and security personnel, were reported to have arrived soon after to assist victims, move the injured, remove damaged vehicles and ease traffic disruption.

The crash highlights recurring safety concerns around busy university entrances and major roads where pedestrians, students and commuters mix with heavy vehicles. Premium Times reported that the student union urged calm and said road safety officials and campus security were working on stronger traffic control and vehicle safety enforcement around the university area.
