What the report says

Radiant Care Foundation (RCF), a Bauchi State-based non-governmental organization, has carried out a free medical outreach for 100 people with visual impairment in Anguwan Makafi, Bauchi metropolis, as part of its Project THRIVE 1.0. The program, reported by Leadership and distributed by AllAfrica, was held yesterday and focused on adults in the community, many of whom face barriers to healthcare because of disability, limited mobility and cost.

According to the report, the outreach included malaria testing and treatment, health education, medical consultations, blood pressure and blood glucose checks, HIV screening, monitoring of vital signs, prescription of medicines and distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets for malaria prevention. RCF said the goal was to improve early detection of illness, support treatment, and refer more serious cases for further care.

The foundation’s executive director, Aliyu Miriam Ohunene, said the project was meant to close gaps in access to care for vulnerable residents. The deputy executive director, Daniel Aliyu, described the effort as the group’s first edition of the initiative. Officials from Bauchi Local Government’s primary healthcare department praised the outreach, while community representatives asked for more attention to the area’s healthcare needs. The report says beneficiaries welcomed the support and urged that similar programs be expanded.
