What the report says

Police in Akwa Ibom State, in southern Nigeria, say they have arrested four suspects in connection with a deadly armed robbery and kidnapping case in Ikot Itienang village, Etinan Local Government Area. The account was reported by Leadership and distributed by AllAfrica. According to police spokesperson DSP Timfon John, the arrests followed a petition to Commissioner of Police Baba Azare and an intelligence-led investigation by detectives.

The police said two men were identified as alleged members of the robbery and kidnapping gang, while two others were detained as suspected accomplices linked to the handling or purchase of stolen property. The suspects named in the report were Gospel Effiong, also known as "Python," Solomon Okon, also known as "Plane," Musa Kabiru, and Victor Dickson. Officials said the case stems from an incident in which one person was killed and another abducted near the Ekom Iman axis of Etinan.

During a search at one suspect’s home, officers said they recovered a locally made pistol, one cartridge, suspected cannabis, a red cap associated with a confraternity, and items described as possibly charms. The police said the arrests are part of a wider effort to dismantle violent criminal networks and urged residents to provide credible information that could help locate any fleeing suspects. In general, such announcements are common in Nigerian policing as authorities seek to show progress on violent crime cases while investigations continue.
