What the report says

Police in Niger State said they have arrested six suspects in separate operations tied to murder, motorcycle theft and kidnapping, according to Premium Times as republished by AllAfrica. The arrests were announced by the state police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement on Wednesday. The cases span several local government areas and alleged criminal networks operating in the state and nearby areas.

In the murder case, officers from the Maikunkele Division and the Violent Crime Response Unit detained a 25-year-old suspect, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim, also known as Manga. Police said he allegedly hired a commercial motorcyclist on 30 September, then attacked him with accomplices on the Gidan-Kwano-Maikunkele road. The victim was reportedly beheaded and his motorcycle stolen. Police said the suspect confessed during questioning and that the motorcycle and a cutlass were recovered, while efforts continue to find the alleged accomplices.

Five other men were arrested in separate anti-kidnapping operations. Police said the suspects were linked to groups operating around Jebba, Zugurma, Mashegu and forest areas in Niger and neighboring Kwara State. The allegations include participation in kidnappings where ransom was paid, attempts to obtain weapons for planned attacks, and involvement in a kidnapping that reportedly brought in millions of naira. The suspects remain in custody and are expected to face charges after investigations. The allegations have not been tested in court.
