Nigeria: PFIPC Probe - Reps Panel Releases Interim Report, Uncovers 58 Bank Accounts Linked to Adeyemi, Clears Gbajabiamila

What the report says

A House of Representatives ad hoc committee in Nigeria has released an interim report on its probe into the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), saying its preliminary findings point to forged and altered official documents, unauthorized use of senior government names, and possible financial irregularities. The report was presented in Abuja by the committee chaired by Yusuf Gagdi, after weeks of hearings involving government institutions, private organisations and people who said they were connected to the matter.

According to the committee, it found no valid legal instrument establishing the PFIPC, and no evidence from the relevant authorities that President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council, the National Assembly or the State House had lawfully approved it. The panel also said a letter used to present Adeniyi Adeyemi as director-general was fabricated, and that the supposed presidential executive order and an Act of Parliament cited as the council’s legal basis were not authentic. It added that about 39 people were shown as employees, and that roughly 58 bank accounts were linked through BVN and other identifiers to Adeyemi.

The committee said its work was still preliminary and not the House’s final decision. It also said the investigation grew out of concerns over the PFIPC’s appearance in the 2026 budget and questions about an alleged take-off grant and its office arrangements. The report said the panel had cleared Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila of authorizing the disputed appointment letter. As a general matter, the case highlights the scrutiny lawmakers are giving to claims of official status, budget access and the use of federal identities by entities operating inside government systems.
