What the report says

The National Youth Service Corps has praised its members who served as ad hoc election workers in Osun State during Saturday’s governorship poll. In a statement reported by Premium Times and distributed by AllAfrica, the NYSC said the corps members showed discipline and commitment while carrying out duties across selected polling units in parts of Ede South, Ede North, Olorunda, Osogbo and Egbedore local government areas.

Osun State NYSC Coordinator Ekeng Kubiangha said he monitored some of the polling locations and was satisfied with how the corps members followed instructions, operational rules and safety guidance issued during earlier sensitisation visits. The report also says he checked on their welfare and security in several communities, including Alajue 1 and 2, Akoda/Oloki and Isibo/Buhari-Isola wards.

The NYSC commended the officers managing the situation room, as well as zonal and local government inspectors, for coordinating the exercise. It also thanked security agencies and INEC officials for helping protect the workers and responding quickly to issues from the field. More broadly, the statement said cooperation among election stakeholders helped support a peaceful and orderly vote.

The article notes that INEC later declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the election, defeating 14 other candidates. The NYSC said it remains committed to the welfare and safety of corps members and urged them to continue upholding professionalism and national service.
