What the report says

Daily Trust, as republished by AllAfrica, reported that at least one person was killed and seven others injured in an attack on a vehicle in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident took place near Total Filling Station and Yelwa Club Junction, and occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the report.

The publication said the victims were herders returning from the Kara Bukuru livestock market toward Bassa Local Government Area. Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Plateau State, confirmed the attack and said those injured were taken to hospital. He called on security agencies to find the attackers and bring them to justice.

The report placed the violence in the context of repeated attacks on herders in Plateau State. It noted that this latest incident came less than two weeks after another attack in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in which five people were killed and one injured. The recurrence of assaults has heightened concern among pastoral communities and traders who rely on the market route for their livelihoods.

Operation Enduring Peace and the police were said not to have responded to inquiries at the time of the report. More broadly, Plateau has seen recurring communal and criminal violence in recent years, making security along market and travel routes a persistent concern.
