Nigeria: One Dead, Two Rescued As Lagos Building Collapses During Demolition

What the report says
A building collapse during a manual demolition in Lagos has left one person dead and two others rescued, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), as reported by Premium Times and distributed by AllAfrica. The incident happened around midnight in Aboru, in Lagos’s Alimosho Local Government Area, at a two-storey structure on Governors Road. Emergency responders said workers were trapped under the debris when they arrived and immediately began rescue efforts.
LASEMA said its Alpha Eagle Response Team was dispatched after a distress call and worked alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service. Two adult men were pulled out alive and taken to a nearby health facility for treatment, while another adult man was recovered dead from the rubble. The affected area was cordoned off to allow responders to work safely.
The agency said preliminary findings indicate the building was being manually demolished when it gave way. It also noted that Lagos regulations require demolition work to be reported to the state building control authority, although it was not clear from the report whether the site had the necessary approval or supervision. The case highlights continuing concerns about demolition safety and compliance with building rules in Nigeria’s largest city.
