What the report says

Nigeria’s Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather outlook calling for a mix of cloudiness, sunshine and periods of thunderstorms with moderate rain across the country from Monday through Wednesday, according to Vanguard’s report distributed by AllAfrica. The forecast was released in Abuja on Sunday and breaks conditions down by region, with the northern states expected to see sunny spells and intermittent storms, while the North Central and southern zones face more widespread rain later in the day.

On Monday, NiMet said parts of the north could see morning storms in places including Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna, followed by afternoon or evening rainfall across several northern states. The North Central region was also forecast to have storms and moderate rain, including in Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory. In the south, rain was expected in the morning in states such as Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, with broader rain later across the region.

The agency projected similar unsettled weather on Tuesday, with storms and moderate rain in the north and North Central region, and light morning rain in parts of the south before wider showers later. By Wednesday, NiMet forecast partly cloudy skies in the north, sunny periods in the North Central region, and cloudy conditions in the south, again with rain in several coastal and inland states.

NiMet urged residents and drivers to take precautions against strong winds and possible flash flooding in coastal areas, and advised airline operators to check airport-specific weather updates before flights. The guidance is important because Nigeria’s rainy-season weather can disrupt travel, farming and daily movement, especially where storms are expected.
