The gains were broad-based, although financial stocks remained the main source of activity. Financial services accounted for 82.10% of volume, and Fortis Global Insurance, United Bank for Africa and Access Holdings together made up more than half of all shares traded. Across the market, 56 stocks advanced and 35 declined. Sector performance was led by oil and gas, which rose 9.10%, while banking, insurance and consumer goods also posted gains.
The article said the rally comes before Nigeria’s September 21 return to FTSE Russell’s Frontier Market status. It added that 31 Nigerian companies have been identified for the Frontier Index Series, a move that could draw more attention from global funds that track frontier-market benchmarks.
