What the report says

Nigeria is moving to expand domestic production of military hardware as the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-D7G, or DICON-D7G, works with Eagles International for Defence Systems to set up new production lines for armoured vehicles, anti-drone systems and related defence equipment. The development was reported by Daily Trust and republished by AllAfrica. It is part of a broader effort to strengthen local manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported military supplies.

According to the report, DICON-D7G chief executive Osman Chennar said the partnership was outlined after a two-day inspection tour in Cairo by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and his delegation. The proposed arrangement is expected to support technology transfer and expand the range of equipment Nigeria can build for its armed forces.

The initiative is also described as having economic and workforce implications. The report says it could create more than 200 jobs and offer opportunities for around 100 retired military personnel. It may also position Nigeria to supply some defence products to other African countries, although that point appears to be an ambition rather than a confirmed outcome.

Among the platforms mentioned are armoured personnel carriers, medical evacuation and ambulance cabins, and several protected vehicles, including models designed with anti-drone or RPG protection. More broadly, the move reflects a regional trend in which governments seek greater self-reliance in defence production, though the report does not say when the new lines will begin operating.
