Nigeria: Misinformation, Communication Gaps Threaten Tinubu's Agenda, Says APC Chieftain

What the report says
An All Progressives Congress chieftain, Dr. Femi Alabi, has said that misinformation and weak public awareness about federal programmes could undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policy agenda. He made the remarks in Abuja over the weekend at the inauguration of state coordinators for the Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Canvassers, a group linked to the Concerned National APC Stakeholders Forum.
According to Daily Trust, Alabi argued that the administration’s efforts in areas such as accountability, economic growth, infrastructure and the rule of law could be weakened if citizens do not receive clear and effective communication about government actions. He also pointed to wider social pressures, including political intolerance, youth unemployment, low civic participation and limited outreach on public programmes, as factors that can erode support for government initiatives.
Alabi urged the newly inaugurated canvassers to serve as a disciplined and ethical link between the government and the public, while encouraging collaboration among official agencies, civil society groups and local communities. The forum’s national coordinator, Dr. Dominic Alancha, separately called on sub-national leaders to bring the administration’s performance report to grassroots communities as political activity begins to shift toward the 2027 general elections.
The report reflects a broader concern in Nigerian politics: that public messaging can shape how policy achievements are received, especially when economic conditions are difficult and trust in institutions is uneven. That context is general background rather than a claim made by the publisher.
