Nigeria: Lagos to Host Annual CAF Awards December 7

What the report says
CAF has selected Lagos State, Nigeria, to host the 2026 CAF Awards, according to Daily Trust’s report distributed by AllAfrica. The announcement came after a virtual meeting of the Confederation of African Football’s Executive Committee, chaired by CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for December 7 and will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, the venue formerly known as the National Art Theatre. The report also says CAF has set November 21 for its Ordinary General Assembly, which will be held in Abuja. Nigeria had already received presidential approval earlier in the year to stage CAF events, including the awards and the general assembly.
The decision marks a return of the CAF Awards to Nigeria, which last hosted the event in 2017. The report notes that the current men’s and women’s player of the year winners are Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak.
CAF’s executive committee also approved parts of its broader 2026-2030 competitions calendar, including dates for the Women’s Champions League and the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations. More generally, such decisions matter because they shape where major African football events will be held and how club and international competitions will be organized across the continent.
