Nigeria: Kano Political Commentator - People Were After His Life - Family Reveals

What the report says
The family of Kano-based political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu says he had repeatedly voiced fears for his safety before he was found dead at his home in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State. According to the account published by Vanguard and distributed by AllAfrica, he was discovered dead on Wednesday, and police said the circumstances remain under investigation.
His sister, Halima, told reporters that he had stopped sleeping at home because he believed people were after him, and instead stayed with a friend. She also described an incident in which unidentified people allegedly tried to persuade him to leave his residence by referring to federal palliatives. A nephew, Muhammad Hizbullah Kabiru, said the family entered the house with police and found his body, adding that he appeared to have suffered serious injuries.
Before his death, Dan Shagamu had posted videos on social media alleging threats from youths in his neighborhood. He said a dispute began after children asked him for alms, then escalated into stone-throwing and damage to property. He also claimed that complaints to community leaders did not bring action, prompting him to seek help from police and the Emir of Kano. The reported allegations and timing are now part of the broader police inquiry.
The death has drawn calls for a full investigation. Former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso urged authorities to protect dissenting voices, while Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf called for calm and directed security agencies to find those responsible. Police said two suspects have been arrested and are being questioned.
