Residents of the Bajallabe community in Kano metropolis have been praised by the state’s Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Substances after they allegedly refused a ₦10 million bribe and reported a suspected drug trafficking activity in their area. According to the report published by Premium Times and distributed by AllAfrica, the incident took place on Tuesday when community members noticed a Volkswagen Golf vehicle carrying suspected illicit substances near a residential building, along with a motorcycle.

The task force said the driver allegedly tried to influence residents and local vigilantes with the cash offer, but they declined and alerted authorities instead. A vigilante chairman then contacted the task force and the Rijiyar Zaki Police Division. Police officers reportedly arrived, secured the vehicle and motorcycle, and took the suspects into custody for preliminary investigation.

Task force chairman Muhyi Magaji commended the residents for what he described as civic responsibility and said community cooperation is important in efforts to curb drug trafficking. The agency also said the property where the substances were found would be sealed under a recently signed executive order by Governor Abba Yusuf, pending further action. Samples of the seized materials have been sent for forensic testing to determine their composition.
