Nigeria: Kano APC Dismisses Kwankwaso's Allegation Over Missing NDC Guber Candidate's Name

What the report says
The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has rejected an allegation by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso that the party and Gov. Abba Yusuf were involved in the removal of a candidate’s name from the Independent National Electoral Commission list. The dispute centers on Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, according to the report distributed by AllAfrica from Vanguard.
In a statement released in Kano by APC chairman Umar Haruna-Doguwa and cited by the News Agency of Nigeria, the party described the claim as false and said it was an attempt to blackmail the APC and its governorship candidate. The APC said the legal matter at issue came from an internal crisis within the NDC and was brought by party members against the NDC itself, not by the APC, Gov. Yusuf, or the party’s governorship candidate.
Haruna-Doguwa said the APC had no role in the court proceedings and had not influenced or facilitated any action against Abdussalam-Gwarzo. He also argued that the judiciary is independent and that the party has no authority over court decisions. The statement urged Kwankwaso to provide evidence for his claims and called the allegation politically misleading.
The APC also said eligible candidates should be able to contest elections under the law and asked the public to disregard attempts to link the party to the NDC’s internal dispute. The episode reflects continuing political tension in Kano ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
