What the report says

Gunmen attacked a vehicle carrying traders from the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, northwest Nigeria, on Sunday, according to Premium Times as republished by AllAfrica. The report said one person was killed and seven others were injured in the shooting.

A community source told Premium Times that the traders were headed toward Bassa Local Government Area when the assailants opened fire near the Total Filling Station at Yelwa Club Junction in Bukuru around 5:30 p.m. The injured victims were taken to hospital, the report said.

The Plateau State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babayo, confirmed the incident and condemned it. He urged security agencies to investigate, strengthen patrols along the Kara Bukuru market route and prevent further attacks on traders and herders. He also appealed for calm and asked members not to retaliate.

The attackers and their motive were not immediately identified, and local police and the Operation Enduring Peace mission had not commented at the time of filing. The incident adds to continuing concern over insecurity on travel routes around the livestock market. More broadly, Plateau State has seen repeated clashes and attacks in recent years, making movement around market and rural corridors a persistent security issue.
