Nigeria: FEC Approves ₦631.3 Billion for Nine Road Projects Nationwide

What the report says
Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council has approved about ₦631.3 billion for nine road projects across the country, according to a report by Premium Times distributed by AllAfrica. The decision was announced by Works Minister David Umahi after Wednesday’s council meeting at the State House in Abuja, chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The projects cover major corridors in several regions and include reconstruction, rehabilitation and bridge work. Among the largest allocations are ₦209 billion for the 81.1-kilometre Ado-Ilawe-Ilumaba-Ikole Road in Ekiti and ₦167 billion for the 95-kilometre Etuke-Okeni-Ankpa-Otopa Road in Kogi. Other approvals include ₦62 billion for the Tungo-Karamti road linking Adamawa and Taraba, as well as funding for works on the East-West Road, Sokoto-Illela Road and an 18-kilometre link to the Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway.
Umahi said the works are intended to improve transport links, connectivity and economic activity by upgrading critical corridors. The report also noted that one project in Abia was approved after funding under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company tax-credit scheme was discontinued.
The minister also gave updates on other national and regional road programmes, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano corridor and the proposed Lagos-Abidjan coastal highway. For readers, the approvals highlight the government’s continued focus on road infrastructure, a key issue for movement of goods and people in Africa’s largest economy.
